It has worked for many. If it works for you please pass on the good news. Chiu Nan is not charging for it, so we should make it free for everyone. Your reward is when someone, through your word of mouth, benefits from the regime. Gallstones may not be everyone's concern. But they should be because we all have them. Moreover, gallstones may lead to cancer. "Cancer is never the first illness," Chiu Nan points out. "Usually, there are a lot of other problems leading to cancer.

Joshua Bell's Social Experiment

“You're only here for a short visit. Don't hurry, don't worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”
-Walter Hagen

Email Message Copied from Hoax-Slayer:

A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the top musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats average $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

Economics of Cows

The Economics of owning bovines:
From trivialdevotion.blogspot.com
SOCIALISM: You have 2 cows, so you give one to your neighbour.
COMMUNISM: You have 2 cows. The State takes both and gives you some milk.
FASCISM: You have 2 cows. The State takes both and sells you some milk.
NAZISM: You have 2 cows. The State takes both and shoots you.
BUREAUCRATISM: You have 2 cows. The State takes both, shoots one, milks the other, and then files the milk away…
TRADITIONAL CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull. Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows. You sell them and retire on the income.
SURREALISM: You have two giraffes. The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.
AN AMERICAN CORPORATION: You have two cows.
You sell one, and force the other to produce the milk of four cows.
Later, you hire a consultant to analyse why the cow has dropped dead.
ENRON VENTURE CAPITALISM: You have two cows.
You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank,
then execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption for five cows.
The milk rights of the six cows are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island Company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cows back to your listed company.
The annual report says the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more.
Sell one cow to buy a new president of the United States, leaving you with nine cows.
No balance sheet provided with the release. The public buys your bull.
A FRENCH CORPORATION: You have two cows.
You go on strike, organise a riot, and block the roads, because you want three cows.
A JAPANESE CORPORATION: You have two cows.
You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk.
You then create a clever cow cartoon image called ‘Cowkimon’ and market it worldwide.
A GERMAN CORPORATION: You have two cows.
You re-engineer them so they live for 100 years, eat once a month, and milk themselves.
AN ITALIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows, but you don’t know where they are. You decide to have lunch.
A RUSSIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows.
You count them and learn you have five cows. You count them again and learn you have 42 cows.
You count them again and learn you have 2 cows. You stop counting cows because you’re sobering up and open another bottle of vodka.
A SWISS CORPORATION: You have 5,000 cows. None of them belong to you. You charge the owners for storing them.
A CHINA CORPORATION: You have two cows. You have 300 people milking them.
You claim that you have full employment, and high bovine productivity, and arrest the newsman who reported the real situation.
AN INDIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You worship them.
A BRITISH CORPORATION: You have two cows. Both are mad.
IRAQI CORPORATION: Everyone thinks you have lots of cows.
You tell them that you have none. No-one believes you, so they bomb you and invade your country.
You still have no cows, but at least now you are part of a Democracy….
AUSTRALIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows.
Business seems pretty good. You close the office and go for a few beers.
WELSH CORPORATION: You have two cows. The one on the left looks very attractive.
IRISH CORPORATION: You have two cows…or is it three? What matters? Aren’t you well off to have even one

An Essay by a Korean About the Philippines

MY SHORT ESSAY ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES
Jaeyoun Kim

Filipinos always complain about the corruption in the Philippines. Do you really think the corruption is the problem of the Philippines? I do not think so. I strongly believe that the problem is the lack of love for the Philippines.

Let me first talk about my country, Korea. It might help you understand my point. After the Korean War, South Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world. Koreans had to start from scratch because entire country was destroyed after the Korean War, and we had no natural resources.

Koreans used to talk about the Philippines, for Filipinos were very rich in Asia. We envy Filipinos. Koreans really wanted to be well off like Filipinos. Many Koreans died of famine. My father & brother also died because of famine. Korean government was very corrupt and is still very corrupt beyond your imagination, but Korea was able to develop dramatically because Koreans really did their best for the common good with their heart burning with patriotism.

Koreans did not work just for themselves but also for their neighborhood and country. Education inspired young men with the spirit of patriotism. 40 years ago, President Park took over the government to reform Korea.

He tried to borrow money from other countries, but it was not possible to get a loan
and attract a foreign investment because the economic situation of South Korea was so bad. Korea had only three factories. So, President Park sent many mine workers and nurses to Germany so that they could send money to Korea to build a factory. They had to go through horrible experience.

In 1964, President Park visited Germany to borrow money. Hundred of Koreans in Germany came to the airport to welcome him and cried there as they saw the President Park. They asked to him, "President, when can we be well off?"

That was the only question everyone asked to him. President Park cried with them and promised them that Korea would be well off if everyone works hard for Korea, and the President of Germany got the strong impression on them and lent money to Korea. So, President Park was able to build many factories in Korea. He always asked Koreans to love their country from their heart.

Many Korean scientists and engineers in the USA came back to Korea to help developing country because they wanted their country to be well off. Though they received very small salary, they did their best for Korea. They always hoped that their children would live in well off country. My parents always brought me to the places where poor and physically handicapped people live.

They wanted me to understand their life and help them. I also worked for Catholic Church when I was in the army. The only thing I learned from Catholic Church was that we have to love our neighborhood. And, I have loved my neighborhood. Have you cried for the Philippines? I have cried for my country several times. I also cried for the Philippines because of so many poor people. I have been to the New Bilibid prison. What made me sad in the prison were the prisoners who do not have any love for their country. They go to mass and work for Church. They pray everyday.

However, they do not love the Philippines. I talked to two prisoners at the maximum-security compound, and both of them said that they would leave the Philippines right after they are released from the prison. They said that they would start a new life in other countries and never come back to
the Philippines.

Many Koreans have a great love for Korea so that we were able to share our wealth with our neighborhood. The owners of factory and company were distributed their profit to their employees fairly so that employees could buy what they needed and saved money for the future and their children.

When I was in Korea, I had a very strong faith and wanted to be a priest. However, when I came to the Philippines, I completely lost my faith. I was very confused when I saw ! many unbelievable situations in the Philippines.

Street kids always make me sad, and I see them everyday. The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia, but there are too many poor people here.

People go to church every Sunday to pray, but nothing has been changed.

My parents came to the Philippines last week and saw this situation. They told me that Korea was much poorer than the present Philippines when they were young. They are so sorry that there are so many beggars and street kids. When we went to Pasanjan, I forced my parents to take a boat because it would fun. However, they were not happy after taking a boat. They said that they would not take the boat again because they were sympathized the boatmen, for the boatmen were very poor and had a small frame. Most of people just took a boat and enjoyed it.

But, my parents did not enjoy it because of love for them. My mother who has been working for the Catholic Church since I was very young told me that if we just go to mass without changing ourselves, we are not Catholic indeed. Faith should come with action. She added that I have to love Filipinos and do good things for them because all of us are same and have received a great love from God.

I want Filipinos to love their neighborhood and country as much as they love God so that the Philippines will be well off.

I am sure that love is the keyword, which Filipinos should remember. We cannot change the sinful structure at once. It should start from person. Love must start in everybody, in a small scale and have to grow. A lot of things happen if we open up to love. Let's put away our prejudices and look at our worries with our new eyes.

I discover that every person is worthy to be loved. Trust in love, because it makes changes possible. Love changes you and me. It changes people, contexts and relationships. It changes the world. Please love your neighborhood and country.

Jesus Christ said that whatever we do to others we do to Him. In the Philippines, there is God for people who are abused and abandoned. There is God who is crying for love. If you have a child, teach them how to love the Philippines. Teach them why they have to love their neighborhood and country. You already know that God also will be very happy if you love others. That's all I really want to ask you Filipinos.

The Clock Ticks for a Reason

Image from Jamberwave
As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

I Love You by Choc

I LOVE YOU =)

I love you
more than the sea loves its shore,
even stronger than the falls
when in great depth it pours.

I wanna hold you close
and let you feel that I care,
I won't let tears leave your eyes
with the love I'd gratefully share...

I could imagine the sound of your kiss,
it can silence everything,
it could sweeten a sweet moment
and fill it with great bliss..

Your soft eyes of honesty,
their innocence have smitten me,
it has made life worth living,
and all truth worth telling.

You smile with great sincerity
and I can't help but to fall.
I'd never thought there'll be someone
who will conquer my heart, who will conquer my all.

Joe D' Mango's Love Story: A Repost

A friend sent me this email a few days ago. Just wanted to share this touching story:
When you can’t fight for that one thing that would make you happy…
…I may never be the guy you look forward to seeing every day…
…but I will always be the guy who will look out for you each and every day.

Of course you’ve heard of Joe D’Mango. He gives advice on love and relationships on Wave 89.1 (Philippines). Have you ever wondered what he does when he has his own love problems? Does he give advice to himself? Does he handle it very well?
Three  fridays ago, our guru on relationships, Joe D’Mango, read a letter to his wife on his popular radio program Love Notes. For the past 11 years, he had been giving advice to people who would write him letters about their  personal problems. To the surprise of his listeners that Friday, instead of  reading one of his usual letters, he read one that he had written himself to his wife Bing. Joe felt that he had to tell his listeners that even someone like him could go through a marital crisis, but that he survived it. Here’s how his letter goes:
---
In our 11 years of marriage it was just the two of us. I never had a close circle of friends and she never had one either.  Life for us was just “you and me,” day in and day out. We were literally  sleeping beside each other for 11 years. It came to a point that there was nothing more interesting to talk about. I was aware I was doing that but I never did anything about it. We were so close yet it seemed like we were so distant. Then came her new circle of friends.
They recently had an  elementary and high school reunion. Remember her persistent suitor since elementary days? He was there. We already had four daughters and the guy had four kids of his own. They exchanged phone numbers. They started to text each other and this bothered me. A big part of it was insecurity and other part was that she once denied that she was texting the guy. I felt  bad because she started hiding things from me. Then the guy asked her if they could meet for lunch. It became a source of tension between us.
I finally agreed, but before that, I told her that I felt that I was going through the same pain again. I have seen so many stories like this. If you told me the first part of the story, I would already know where it would lead to.

Bing accused me of being a “know-it-all” person. But deep in my heart, I knew where she was heading. Why would a married guy see a married girl unless it was for business or professional reasons? Finally, even if it was against my will, I drove her to the meeting place.

While I was waiting at the radio station, I wanted to call her but knew it wasn’t proper. So I just waited for her to tell me how their meeting went.

When she related to me what happened I felt that she was keeping the other details. I was afraid to ask because I wasn’t prepared to accept her answers. I told her that it would be best if that was their last meeting. She got mad and told me that I was starting to control her life.

The following day, I saw a small, torn piece of paper that had the words, “lose you” in the trash can at home.  I started picking up the pieces of paper and putting them together. She had  written: “Felt sad because I felt that this will be our last meeting.”  ”Wanted to hug you…” Before I could figure out what the third one was, Bing was already at my back. She wanted to get the torn pieces of paper back.  She said it was private property. We decided to talk.

By then, I was able to figure out the third line: “Not sure if afraid to lose you.”  She had crossed it out and beside it, she had written, “Wanted to cry.”

That was what hit me. How could you lose something that’s not even with you yet? That was a confirmation that she was getting emotionally attached to the guy. We fought because she didn’t want to admit it. She said that what she had written was all about friendship and not about love. For the first time in our marriage she asked for freedom from me. For 11 years we were always together, and now this.

She had discovered her own little world and wanted to explore it. I didn’t want to give it to her but finally I gave in. I told her that she could do anything she wanted and not worry about how I would feel. In fact, I told her that I was planning to leave her and kids for a while so we could give each other the chance to be alone. We decided to give the new arrangement a try.

The following day, Thursday, I went to work early and she texted me. I never answered back.  When I didn’t respond, she called me. She said, “I’m sorry. I love you and I  miss you.” For the first time in our mariage I said, “I love you and I miss you too” with tears in my eyes.

I realized how much I loved her but I also knew how much she wanted her freedom. When I arrived at the station I asked for a leave. My boss advised me to think it over, but he said that he would allow me to go on leave.

After letting it all out I felt relieved. It was the first time in my life that I asked for advice about our relationship. While I was talking with my boss, a messenger arrived with 12 white roses arranged in a basket. It came from Bing. Then a text message on my cellphone came, “I know that no material things can ease the pain that you’re feeling right now, but these flowers signify my pure and sincere intentions. I’m really sorry. Please forgive  me.”

Still, a question continued to bug me: “I’m giving you the freedom.  Will you choose to stay or go on?” I read the card, and it had the answer to my question: “Dear Dad, I finally realized that I made a very big mistake in choosing a new-found friendship at the expense of our long-time friendship. Please forgive me. I will always love you."

Bing  called the guy and told him that she wanted to end the friendship. He said that they could just text or call each other.  Bing said that there was no need.

We had dinner and talked up to 1 am. It was like getting married all over again. We lost each other and found our way back. I do not want to go through the same pain again.

Friday came and it was the first  time in the history of Love Notes that I couldn’t do Love Notes. I scheduled a replay. When I was at the station at 9 am, I composed a letter to Bing. I  was asking myself, should I read this or do a replay? I chose to read the  letter. It is not unusual to hear people say “I love you because…,” but  this story has shown us that the deeper and greater love is having to say..

“I LOVE YOU IN SPITE OF…”

Trying to Find Out Who Really Won the Pacquiao - Marquez Fight (November 2011)

Attached are the Scorecards side by side with the compubox tally of the Pacquiao-Marquez 3 fight. Looking at them it's interesting to note the following items to help in the ongoing debate regarding the result of this fight.

Scorecard Rounds 1-6 (from michaeldsellers.com)

Scorecard Rounds 7-12 (from michaeldsellers.com)

Findings:

There were 6 "easy" rounds to score, which were unanimously given to either fighters:
  • Pac - 1,3,6
  • Marq - 4,5,7

It's interesting to note that rounds 4 and 5 were unanimously given to Marq, BUT THESE ROUNDS WERE WON BY PACQUIAO according to compubox figures.

Now this means that judges were actually favoring to "better" shots by Marquez over the #of hits made by Pacman--Which is rightly so in my opinion. The compubox figures therefore do not dictate the fight's winner, in fact, if im not mistaken, in their 2nd fight, Marquez actually won the compubox but lost in the judges scorecards.

Moving on, if we cancel the obvious" rounds out, then the fight's winner now depends on the remaining rounds that were more "competitive" and therefore harder to score.

These remaining 6 rounds were won by a fighter through a "Majority," i.e. 2 out of the 3 judges scored it in favor of one fighter:

  • Pac - 2,8, 9,10,11,12 --> rd 8 was actually won by Marq in the compubox
  • Marquez - NONE

So far, it looks like that i can no longer use the argument that "cleaner hits" were not given due weight since obviously, the judges did so with rounds 4,5, and 8. Now all I need is a copy of the fight so I can try to score it for a second time, especially the 6 "majority" rounds that all went to pacquiao. Hopefully after seeing the fight again and scoring in a more detached and objective manner, I'll stop debating anymore (with myself or others) and be able to definitively say who won this fight.

The Match:

So after replays and replays of the fight (muted and not), this is the most objective i can get to scoring the fight:

I scored it 115-113 for Pacquiao:

Rd 1 - Pac
Rd 2 - Marq ---> i gave this round to Marq because he had the more telling shots even though Pac was the aggressor.
Rd 3 - Pac
Rd 4 - Marq
Rd 5 - Marq
Rd 6 - Pac
Rd 7 - Marq
Rd 8 - Pac --> Marq countered very well in this rd practically negating all of pacs hits, but pac initiated the action. Here i think its correct to give it to pac for aggression since no one had the advantage in clear hits. (for every pac punch, marq countered with one of his own)
Rd 9 - Pac
Rd 10 - Pac
Rd 11 - Marq
Rd 12 - Pac --> both fighters tentative in the final rd. But Pac landed a solid punch at the close of the rd.

I scored it exactly as Judge Dave Moretti had, including which rounds were given to whom.

After 11 rounds, i had it 105-104 for Pacman, therefore for me, the 12th round decided it all. Had Marq won this round, i would have scored it a draw at 114-114.

Thoughts:

When you see the fight for the first time, Marquez definitely "looked" like he won  because he took his rounds in such a dominant fashion. In rounds 5 and 7, he was all over pacquiao, schooling him with accurate and crisp hits. The most memorable hits of the fight were definitely by Marquez. On the flip side, i cant remember a single round that pac won in similar fashion. Pac won more rounds in the cards but not as convincing as the rounds won by Marquez, but the fight needs to be judged an per round basis which favors the more active pac.

To give you an idea how hard this fight is to score, note that there were at least 5 rounds that could have gone either way. If you had given just 2 rounds, just 2 of the 5 rounds to a fighter, this is a 4-point swing in the cards, and you end up REVERSING the result.

Pac might have won the fight, but he wasn't necessarily the better fighter, and its perfectly ok for me to say that. In my opinion, Morales is a better fighter than Pac, but we all know how Pac annihilated him. It happens, and thats boxing.

How Things Can Change

Yes, you can have a goodnight kiss. Not everyone wants you only for what you can offer sexually. Not everyone will only behave intimately towards you when you are five minutes from having sex. Someone very soon will care about you in a way that is distinct from their own needs and will want to show you that when they are given the chance. You will feel loved and happy and your desire for this is not irrational.
You can have a romance on your own terms. Maybe this means you want to spend more time sleeping in your own bed or less time having unfulfilling anal sex. Maybe you’d like to go out in public more often or maybe you’d like to go camping or talk about poetry or not watch a sports game. You can have that. Someone will be interested in what you care about just because they care about and are interested in you.
Your relationship can be recognized. Someone will fall in love with you who lets his friends and family know. Who introduces you to them and wants them to like you because they like you. Who won’t call you “my friend” in public and who will write on your Facebook wall and who will pose for pictures with you without cringing or making excuses.
You can communicate without fighting. One of the most important lessons a person can and (hopefully) will learn after their first relationship is that drama doesn’t equal intimacy. Just because you are having frequent, vulnerable, complicated conversations it doesn’t mean your relationship is deep or meaningful. It means you’re both insecure and hurt and it’s damaged beyond repair, probably. You will find someone who likes to talk to you because they think you are funny and interesting and they want your perspective, not to punish or check up on you.
You can feel happy and excited when you are communicated with. On a related note, you need to know that you can get to a place where you feel elated and not anxious when someone communicates with you. Your phone will buzz and you will feel affectionate and not sick to your stomach.
You can expect someone to care about you as an equal. This involves all levels of reciprocity in a relationship, not the least of which regards your sexual needs. You deserve to be able to clearly communicate what you want and you deserve to have those wants understood and appreciated. You are not a possession or a servant.
You can stop lying to your friends. You will feel infinitely better when you can stop telling your friends that this person and/or your relationship with them is perfect, happy, healthy, normal, etc. Someday you will find a person whose actions speak for themselves and you won’t have to bullsh-t anybody.
